The pipe for myself this year will most likely be German, a Paul Becker. The man has style and makes somewhat affordable pieces

Thursday night in Neil's room sounds great - I'd probably end there anyway after I have closed the shop for the night ;-)

Gee, it's soon :-))

I know that I've talked to a few people who consider Peter Heeschen's bits to be among the thinnest and most comfortable in the world. His standards according to his website are between 3.5-4mm or .138-.157". I'm probably not the right judge since my Heeschen is some 4 years old and the bit is...

Won't condensated tobacco juices end up in the mortise? The model would probably work better with the 'broken off shank' on top

Todd--waiting for Jesper to talk about pipes being "blasted out of shape" I'm not opening this can of worms even if I was tempted with the thread about mediocre Danish blasting on alt.smokers.pipes recently. But I know what I have seen with my own eyes: amazing blasting on expensive Ameri...

You Americans are far behind (as usual one could add) -- the Danish 500 Kroner bank note (app $90) shows Niels Bohr smoking a large full bent pipe..

Back to school?

The site has nothing to do with me but you guys can get back to school (if you can afford it) and learn how to make pipes. First lessons by Lars Ivarsson http://www.finepipes.com/GM/School/Session1.htm Also more on http://www.grandmasters.dk And by the way, quite a lively discussion on a.s.p. right ...

I use to say that pipesmoking and pipemaking isn't exactly rocket science but apparantly I am wrong ;-)

Wonderful Copenhagen

I'm on my way to Copenhagen to the pipe show / European Cup in slow pipe smoking. Since I suck at the latter I will not participate this year (4 years ago I finished first and was thus the poorest pipesmoker in Denmark) but I have a table at the show. Some 30 American pipes, both new and estates, by...

I picked up an olive pipe in Richmond, made by Johan in South Africa http://www.jobertpipes.co.za/ I've been looking for one for quite some time and I don't like the big Italian models so it was a nice surprice to find some more moderately sized pipes, about a Dunhill group 4 The craftmanship could ...

Refbjerg was indeed the man behind the Soren pipes in the 1970s. They were (horrible!) Fancy Freehands and most were made by his employees. His pipes are stamped Refbjerg today and AFAIK he also sold Refbjerg stamped pipes in the fancy days, that was the classical models and almost all made by himse...

I believe that Clive Humm is the only online supplier of Refbjerg's pipes here http://straightgrain.connect-2.co.uk/Refbjerg.htm
The 12 pipes I bought are obviously prettier and cheaper ;-)

Free briar in Richmond!

I got some blocks from Soren Refbjerg today - he's one of the big briar suppliers in Denmark and also a good pipemaker BTW. Tyler will get some for review but I have exactky 4 blocks to give away in Richmond, it's Greek plateaux and Corsican blocks M2-3. So the first 4 here from the forum who sends ...
