I put a peice of tape around the shank and polish the band with a separate buff just for metals. Then i do the reverse when polishing the shank. A lovely pipe! However, I'd take some material from the stem, IMHO it's too meaty for this shape... Must say, the colour of the wood and the stem contrasts beautifully!
